Everyday Pork & Prawn Wontons
Crispy, juicy, and toddler-approved, these everyday wontons are perfect for little hands to help with.
Fry them, boil them or freeze for busy weeknights
Everyday Pork & Prawn Wontons
I call these our everyday wontons because they’re so easy to make and keep on hand. I almost always have some frozen prawns and minced pork in the freezer. The filling can also be prepped in advance, frozen, and wrapped whenever you’ve got little hands free to help. Alternatively fully wrapped wontons can be frozen too, my Shanghainese MIL keeps a stash of frozen wontons in her Freezer for quick meals.
My kids love getting involved with the wrapping even if it means each wonton comes out totally different. My youngest eats only the crispy skin and hands me the filling like I’m the bin 😅. But I’ve learnt to let go of perfection. Everything turns out delicious once it’s deep-fried.
Not a fan of frying? Just drop them into some chicken broth for a cozy bowl of soupy wontons!
Why I Love It:
✔️ Kids love helping and actually eating them
✔️ Freezer-friendly, perfect for meal prep
✔️ Boil for soup or deep fry for extra crunch
Ingredients:
- 150g IQF (individually quick frozen) prawns, roughly chopped
- 150g minced pork (or chicken if you prefer)
- 1 stalk spring onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tsp soy sauce
- 2 tsp sesame oil
- 2 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp corn flour
- Dash of white pepper
- 1 packet wonton wrappers
Instructions:
1. Mix all the filling ingredients together until well combined.
2. Wrap with wonton wrappers, any shape goes. Less filling = crispier edges when fried.
3. To deep fry: heat oil and fry until golden brown.
4. To boil: cook in simmering soup or water until the wontons float.
5. Any leftover filling can be frozen, or simply pan-fried without wrappers to reduce food waste.
👶🏻 Toddler-Friendly Tip:
Reduce the amount of seasoning if needed, and let kids “fold” the wrappers any way they want. The less filling, the crispier the edges! You can also boil these for a gentle soup version
